Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
A specialist light-touch therapy increasing the flow of lymph
Service Description
A specialist light-touch therapy increasing the flow of lymph around the body with stimulation to help the removal of toxins, excess water, waste and foreign substances from congested tissues. The lymphatic system is crucial in our body’s immune response and if its health is not maintained, it becomes weak and less effective. This can be the result of injury, infection, poor diet or lifestyle as well as other differing reasons. Manual encouragement of lymphatic flow can assist in boosting the immune system and for the continual maintenance of good physical wellbeing. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is extremely safe and non-invasive. It does not involve the 'massage of muscles', but carefully applied stimulation of skin-receptors. In turn, these generate micro muscular pulse-activity in the lymphatic vessels beneath the skin surface and act as catalysts to help move lymph through the body at an increased rate. Manual Lymphatic Drainage feels light and soft in comparison to other types of massage therapy and due to its systematic and rhythmic application is extremely relaxing. MLD treatment is always specific to the needs and requirements of each individual and is proven to be most effective in cases involving edema (where swelling results from excess fluid). The treatment plan and frequency differ for all cases and where daily requirements are essential for some conditions at onset, they graduate to weekly frequency as the plan is implemented and edema shows signs of breakdown. There are various health conditions that may prevent one from having this form of therapy and others which require tailoring of MLD treatment and will be modified as identified via your Consultation Form if applicable to you.
