Service Description

A specialist light-touch therapy increasing the flow of lymph around the body, stimulation the removal of toxins, excess water, bacteria, metabolic waste and foreign substances from congested tissues or generally sluggish systems. The lymphatic system plays a vital role in our bodies immune response and if compromised in any way, it becomes less effective. This can be through injury, infection, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle as well as other many other reasons. Manual encouragement of lymphatic flow can be beneficial in boosting immunity and for the continual maintenance of good health and wellbeing. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is extremely safe and non-invasive. It does not involve the 'massage of muscles', but the systematically applied stimulation of skin-receptors. In turn, these generate tiny muscular pulse-activity in the lymphatic vessels beneath the skin surface and help to pump lymph through the body at an increased rate. Manual Lymphatic Drainage feels super-light in comparison to other types of massage therapy and due to its rhythmic application is extremely soothing and relaxing. Treatment is always tailored to the requirements of each individual but MLD is usually best and most effective in cases involving edema (where swelling results from excess fluid). The course of treatment and frequency vary between conditions and where initially it can be part of a daily routine, in subsequent weeks the frequency becomes less. You should not receive Lymphatic Drainage when you have: - Untreated malignant disease, including tumour recurrence or metastases. - Acute inflammation (e.g. caused by bacteria, viruses, chemicals etc.) - Acute allergic reaction. - Cardiac insufficiency of any kind - Acute phlebitis or thrombosis (incl. DVT) There are other health conditions which require tailoring of MLD treatment and will be modified as identified via your Consultation Form if applicable to you.
